Nagata Shachu Present Their Latest Work On November 10 & 11

Toronto taiko drum ensemble Nagata Shachu will present their latest work, ‘Work Songs’ / ‘Shigoto Uta’ at the Enwave Theatre in Toronto on November 10 and 11.

“In Japan there is a saying, ‘Where there is work, there is song.’ Such songs, often cheerful and uplifting, were used to help pass the time of day as well as to coordinate the efforts of a group of workers,” Kiyoshi Nagata, a noted taiko soloist and artistic director, said in a statement, explaining this year’s theme.

The cast of performers for this year’s performance include Nagata, Aki Takahashi, Scott Kusano, Akemi Akachi, Tony Nguyen and Heidi Chan.

NS uses taiko drums, flutes, shamisen, voice, movement and colourful costumes for their compositions, which pay tribute to the traditional labourers, farmers, fishermen, woodcutters and carpenters of Japan.

The group is currently in the studio preparing for the release of their sixth album in 2013.

Celebrate 50 Years Of The Rolling Stones With Crossfire Hurricane

The Rolling Stones are hitting the big five-oh and Cineplex Entertainment’s Front Row Centre Events and Eagle Rock Entertainment are celebrating with a one-night-only screening of the documentary Crossfire Hurricane at select theatres on November 8, 2012.

Directed by Brett Morgan, the doc chronicles the Stones’ journey from their early days to being one of the biggest bands on the planet. All the career highlights (And low lights) are here. From their debut at The Marquee Club to Hyde Park, from the infamous concert Altamont to Exile On Main Street and gigs in tiny clubs to stadiums.

The film takes its title from a lyric in ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’ and it promises never-before-seen footage as well as new insights from the band themselves. It provides the viewer with an first-hand experience of what it was like to be in the band and all the struggles and triumphs they experienced over the last five decades.

Ticket holders will receive a special commemorative ticket to celebrate the doc’s release. To find out where the film is screening, head here.

A blu-ray and DVD of the film will be released in spring 2013.
