Videos for a Lazy Sunday: Shane Koyczan’s ‘Shoulders’

Spoken word artist Shane Koyczan has unveiled the video for ‘Shoulders’ from his upcoming book of poetry A Bruise on Light.

“A Bruise On Light is a collection that’s come out of my last two years of touring. I’ve enjoyed some enormous success recently, but depression has loomed over certain milestones,” Koyczan said in a statement. “It’s been a challenge to feel happy about my achievements while dark clouds appear constantly on the horizon. Nevertheless, writing has been a source of great comfort, and helps me to occasionally pan small pieces of gold from these streams of consciousness. A Bruise On Light is a collection of stone and gold… impurity and shine.”

He specifically wrote the piece for David Suzuki’s Blue Dot Tour where he shared the stage with Suzuki, Neil Young, Feist, Margaret Atwood, Raine Maida, Chantal Kreviazuk, Joel Plaskett, Robert Bateman, Stephen Lewis, Danny Michel, Jeremy Fisher, Whitehorse, Jenn Grant and more.

“When I first heard Shane perform “Shoulders” it brought tears to my eyes,” Suzuki said in a statement. “Poetry, like music, connects people in a powerful way and Shane lifted entire audiences to their feet with his incredible words. We are so grateful that he’s a part of the Blue Dot movement.”

Videos for a Lazy Sunday: Valise’s ‘Don’t Forget Me’

Dallas’ Valise have shared the video for ‘Don’t Forget Me’ from their debut album Young Bloomer, out on February 24, 2015.

“The ‘Don’t Forget Me’ video is basically a grown up game of telephone – where a whisper gets passed around a circle in hopes that it comes back accurately to the first person,” guitarist Jared Travis explained in a statement. “When we applied that idea to relationships, we got this poignant reminder of how much people can hurt and change each other when they’re together, and how that damage becomes baggage in their next relationship.  Add in a dash of “what goes around, comes around” and the idea was pretty much set.”

The band recorded Young Bloomer over the course of 18 weeks at the Vanguard Room in Lakeland, Florida with Matt Wilbur.

Valise’s members met in school quickly became one of the area’s most buzzed about bands and landed several highly coveted opening slots for bands like Death Cab for Cutie. An early demo saw the band receiving regular rotation on KXT 91.7.

The band has also been garnering attention nationally thanks to their single ‘Charlie Gray’.
