We Came as Strangers have shared a free stream of ‘Still Life’ from their forthcoming third album Eyedom, out on August 31.
The single combines Americana-style guitar, trippy bass and a trip-hop-style beat built around singer Ellem’s vocals.
The band initially started life as an experimental side project for its four members.
“I wanted to do a proper band where we all write the songs and are all involved in production,” guitarist Justin Sandercoe said in a statement. “And we did go into it as strangers, I’d worked a bit with everyone but the rest of the band hadn’t met each other before.”
Sandcoe has been hailed as, “One of the most influential guitar teachers of all time,” by The Independent and his YouTube has clocked 210 million views and counting. He and bassist Tim Harries performed alongside Katie Melua. Singer Ellem is best known for her take on The Beatles’ ‘Black Bird’ for Converse as well as her music being used in a number of film’s and TV shows including About a Boy and Grey’s Anatomy.
Drummer Owen Thomas comes from a production background, having worked on both TV and film. His musical sensibilities combines both American-style roots and British trip-hop.
