Vancouver’s GeL have offered a free stream/download of ‘I Got Your Back’ from their self-titled EP, out on January 22.
The band was formed from the ashes of 90’s pop-rock band The Wild Strawberries. The band had its genesis back in the 90’s when The Strawbs were on the road and Ken Harrison made plans to start a band that was more synth-pop driven.
“We had so much fun playing live with Ash when he joined us on a bunch of Wild Strawberries tours,” Harrison said in a statement. “We can’t wait to test out this new material on stage!”
Ken and his wife Roberta Carter Harrison have been busy raising their four children at a converted church in southwestern Ontario but they kept recording at the studio they built in the loft.
Touring presented a challenge but they jumped at the opportunity to record with German DJ ATB on a remix of the Wild Strawberries track ‘Wrong to Let You Go’ and renamed it ‘Let U Go’. It hit #7 on Germany’s pop charts. They continued to collaborate with DJs around the world.
Their bandmate Ashwin Sood has kept busy since the Wild Strawberries called it a day, after touring with his partner Sarah McLachlan for 20 years, he took time off to co-parent their two daughters. He kept busy as a studio musician; recording drums, percussion, vocals and also production as well as songwriting for a variety of projects.
He’s also been touring in smaller doses as well.
GeL will hit the road in support of the EP following its release, details TBA.
