Videos for a Lazy Sunday: Mogwai’s ‘Party in the Dark’

The Craig Murray-directed video for Mogwai’s ‘Party in the Dark’ takes visual cues from horror and sci-fi movies from the 80’s.

The effects were achieved using practical methods. The silicone-moulded sculptures were case in wax then melted. Shooting the video took 10 days using a combination of stop motion, regular and time-lapse filming.

The track is taken from the Scottish band’s forthcoming album Every Country’s Sun. ‘Party in the Dark’ has already enjoyed several weeks on BBC Radio 6 Music A List. A 7″ single featuring the song along with a b-side, ‘Eternal Panther’ is out on August 25.

Mogwai joined forces with David Fridmann, who helmed the board’s for their 2001 effort Rock Action.
