Toronto singer/songwriter/freestyler Olive B, aka Nicole Olivia Balsom, has shared a free stream of her track ‘joey moon’.
The track’s name comes from her father’s old band, Joey Moon and the Crescents.
Balsom comes from a classical background but in an e-mail, she said that, “It was freestyling alone over basic guitar chords or over beats at parties that I really found my musical outlet.”
She hooked up with Toronto producer Kayobe who was looking for a singer for his track ‘Sun Don’t Shine’. The two felt an immediate musical connection and started writing music together, Just a few weeks after meeting, they were working on her debut album no(w)here, out now.
“The majority of my recent music has been in collaboration with Chewy, a Vancouver producer, who I met through mutuals,” Balsom said in an e-mail. “When it came to creating my new single, Chewy sent me the beat and 30 minutes later, I responded with the freestyle for the first verse of ‘joey moon’.”
This follows the release of Balsom’s track ‘always you’, also streaming for free;
