Videos for a Lazy Sunday: Born Ruffians’ ‘Miss You’

The video for Born Ruffians ‘Miss You’ concludes a trio of videos from Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis from July Talk that includes ‘Love Too Soon’ and ‘Forget Me’ from their latest effort Uncle, Duke and The Chief, out now on Paper Bag Records.

“We had a lot of fun working on the third instalment in our trilogy of videos that we shot with Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay Goldstein,” Luke Lalonde explained in a statement. “We spent the day in pretty realistic old man prosthetics, and we couldn’t help but be in character the whole time. We went straight method and embodied the role of ‘an old weirdo.’ The prosthetic skin felt very real to the touch, it was a glimpse into our potential future.”

Stream Born Ruffians’ ‘When Things Get Pointless I Roll Away’ for Free

Born Ruffians have shared a free stream of ‘When Things Get Pointless I Roll Away’ from their forthcoming album RUFF, out on October 2 on Paper Bag Records.

The band had this to say about the track in a statement; “The second half of the track was improvised in the studio unexpectedly. Luke (Lalonde; guitarist and vocalist) was testing out vocal sounds and repeating the words “on and on and on and on”, which actually is the name of another song on the record (the one that coincidentally follows ‘When Things Get Pointless I Roll Away’). It was a rare, unique studio moment that led to the very atmospheric, moving feel of that vocal line. You can’t plan everything that’s going to happen when you make a record; sometimes the most interesting moments just happen organically.”

The new album finds Born Ruffians exploring self and aesthetics. It represents both a return to form and departure from convention. It’s a culmination and a disassembly of the band’s sound.

RUFF was written over the course of two years starting in 2013, some songs were even written in a few days or in a single band practice. They recorded the album with Jeff McMurrich over the course of three weeks and once again turned to Rusty Santos to produce the 11 track effort.

Born Ruffians have unveiled the video for ‘Permanent Hesitation’ from their album Birthmarks, out now via Paper Bag Records.

Directors Ron Eyal and Eleanor Burke devised an eight camera rig along with Eric Lin that allowed each camera to be aimed independently. It’s the first music video shot using this technique. Designer and animator Kristyn Hume provided the motion graphics.
