Northside Festival Announces New Additions To Film Component

Brooklyn’s Northside Festival has announced new additions to the event’s film component.

Northside Film and Northside Town Hall will join forces to premiere Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective founder Landon Van Soest’s installation Five Windows. Women Make Movies will present Forbidden Voices, a chronicle of women around the world speaking out in the dictatorial regimes they live in.

Other films being presented include the NY premiere of  Swim Little Fish Swim, Frenzy, She Said Boom: The Story of Fifth Column, American Job, Your Day is My Night, Byzantium, Paris is Burning, Ape and the NY premiere of The Invader.

The shortlist for The Northside DIY Film Competition has also been announced. Four feature-length films and 10 shorts will compete for cash prizes and equipment.

The shortlist for features is;

Major Lazer Frees The Universe On Upcoming Release

Major Lazer, aka Diplo, will release his new album Free The Universe on February 19, 2013 on Mad Decent/Downtown.

It’s the follow-up, not counting two EPs, to the 2009 release Guns Don’t Kill People … Lazers Do. The single ‘Get Free’, featuring Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors,is already being lauded with praise. Purchase it here. A limited edition 12″ featuring remixes of the track from drum & bass artist Andy C, Brazilian trio Bonde do Role and What So Not. The latter was previously only available as an online-only bootleg.

Free The Universe will feature collaborations with Bruno Mars, Tyga, Flux Pavillion, Wynter Gordon, Shaggy, Wyclef, Ezra Koening from Vampire Weekend, Dev and more.

In other Major Lazer news, the fictional character will be featured on Snoop Dogg’s forthcoming Snoop Lion reggae album. He’ll also put in an appearance on No Doubt’s forthcoming album. Lazer also released a remix of Hot Chip‘s ‘Look At Where We Are’.
