Videos For a Lazy Sunday: Barnett + Coloccia’s ‘So How Much Do You Know About Me?’

Considering that Faith Coloccia and Alex Barnet are separated by 2000 miles, the title of the first single from their forthcoming EP Retrieval is fitting; ‘So How Much Do You Know About Me?’

Barnett + Coloccia‘s Retrieval is out on December 2 on Blackest Ever Black.

Despite the distance, the pair did meet in person, recording the bulk of the seven tracks over the course of three days at Otic Sound in Vancouver using a combination of Coloccia’s treated vocals,  tape-manipulated acoustic recordings and AM radio sounds with Barnet adding synths to create additional loops, beats and rhythmic elements. They got together again for the final mixing and editing session at AVAST! Studio in Seattle with engineer/producer Randall Dunn.

The result is a collection of songs that’s introspective in nature but cosmic in scope.

A1. Harbor (4:04)

A3. So, How Much Do You Know About Me? (3:03)

B1. Repeating Pit (5:43)
B2. Retrieval (4:47)
B3. Birds Eye (6:50)

Kinski Come In Threes; Tour Dates, Contest & Free MP3s

Kinski fans already have the band’s sixth album Cosy Moments, out on April 2 on Kill Rock Stars, to look forward to, but the band also unveiled tour dates, free MP3s and a contest that gives them the chance to catch the band live and share a drink with the band.

The band has unveiled the “Whiskey With Kinski” contest. Simply like Kill Rock Stars on Facebook or follow the label on Twitter and guess the band’s favourite kind of whiskey, there’s a flyer on the FB page, or tweet with the hashtag “#cosymoments”. A random winner will be selected from all the correct entries on the album’s release date, April 2.

The new album finds the band playing the same heavy proto-punk they’re known for while moving forward with their sound.

“We wanted to make something more direct,” songwriter Chris Martin said in a statement. “That was the kind of music I kept finding myself listening to and that’s what we tried to do. I was getting tired of hearing people step on wah pedals and solo over psych rock. There were so many bands doing that, including us. We’ve always had poppy, song-ish elements but we took them further this time.”

Randall Dunn once again helmed the boards. For an early preview, head here to stream or download ‘Last Day On Earth’ for free and here for a free stream of ‘Conflict Free Diamonds’.
