NeXT Unleashes a Winter Showstorm

With everyone recovering from the holidays, not to mention Toronto recovering from the Great Ice Storm of 2013, going to see live music may be the last thing on many people’s mind.

But, legendary booker Dan Burke has offered up an absolutely killer line-up of shows in the coming weeks. To RSVP to the events on Facebook, click on the links provided.

Edmonton singer Calvin Love is part of the “Mac (DeMarco) Pack” is playing the Silver Dollar on December 28 with Beams, Henri Faberge and The Folk. Cover is $7.

New Year’s Eve at the Silver Dollar features a killer line-up at a low price, $10, with Bloodshot Bill, Milk Lines, Stella Ella Ola, Brews Willis, Christian Hansen and DJs Sianteuse & Johnny Rankin.

Gino Washington is playing the Horseshoe on January 11 with The BB Guns, Honeyrunners, The Two Times and Pins and Needles. Cover is $10.

NeXT and Elliott Jones will present Alex Calder, another member of the “Mac (DeMarco) Pack” at the Silver Dollar on January 3. The cover is $7.50 in advance at Rotate This, Soundscapes, the Horseshoe and online at Ticketfly. Blonde Elvis and Wish Pet Suns are also on the bill.

Burke will join forces with a number of local promoters for a series of shows called Class of 2014 featuring an “honour role” of up and coming indie artists at the Silver Dollar.

The first show is presented in partnership with Wavelength and features Fresh Snow, Del Bel, Mas and Anamai. Cover is $6.

The second Class of 2014 gig is presented in partnership with Silent Shout on January 17 and features Jef Barbara, Bizzarah, Lido Pimienta, Nyssa and Twist. Cover is $8. 

Mark Pesci presents the third edition with Red Mass, Cellphone, Dirty Frigs, Dilly Dally and Crhymes. The cover is $7.50 in advance at Rotate This, Soundscapes and online at Ticketfly.

Aaron Miller of Arts & Crafts Records presents the final edition with AKUA, Invasions, Language Arts, Ada Dahli and the Pallbearers and DJ Eytan Tobin. Cover is $7. 


Looking For A Place T.O. Happen, October 19, 2012

The weather outside is getting chilly so that’s a good excuse to head indoors to check out some live music. Tomorrow night has several good bets if you’re heading out in Toronto.

Lee’s Palace has a solid bill of left coast artists featuring The DudesChristian Hansen and London Swagger. Cover is $10.

Or, head out to the wilds of West Queen West for h@tb favourites Littlefoot Longfoot and He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister at Parts & Labour.

Catch Ex-Smiths Bassist Andy Rourke DJ’ing On A Boat

Legendary Toronto booker Dan Burke has teamed with Bobby Kimberely of Young Lions Music Club to bring ex-Smiths bassist-turned-DJ Andy Rourke to the city for a two-level dance/show on The River Gambler.

The event will also feature sets by T.O. bands Army Girls, Stella Ella Ola and July Talk. Tix are $15 at Rotate This and Soundscapes and the boat will depart from the foot of Parliament St. at 8:30 pm.


Fall Showstorm

Legendary Toronto booker Dan Burke has just unveiled some of the gigs coming up in the late summer and early fall.

Toronto’s Stella Ella Ola is hitting the Silver Dollar with Reversing Falls, Grounders and Triple Gangers. Cover is $6.

Montreal’s Canailles are rolling into the ‘Dollar on July 27th as part of Pop Montreal’s POP Off 2 tour along with The Unseen Strangers, The Modern Grass and Sin & Swoon. Advance tix can be purchased at Rotate This.

California garage/country art rockers Sonny and The Sunsets will play the Silver Dollar with Fiver, Magic Trick and Little City on August 11th. Tickets can be purchased at Rotate This! for $11.50.

Bloodshot Bill will roll in to the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern on September 8th. Buy your tickets for $9 at Rotate This, Soundscapes and the Horseshoe.

Japanese indie rockers The Zoobombs will play the Silver Dollar with Johnny Dowd on September 21st. Advance tix are available at Rotate This! and Soundscapes.


Check Out Who’s NeXT@NXNE

Toronto rock booker extraordinaire Dan Burke has just announced the NeXT@NXNE showcases at the Silver Dollar and Velvet Underground.

This year, Los Angeles garage rockers Bleached (Pictured), formerly Mika Miko, will play three nights, June 14th to 16th. They’re going to be joined by a stellar line-up each night including Hooded Fang, Parlovr and more, part of POP Montreal’s showcase as previously mentioned, plus Mac DeMarco, Ell V Gore and many more!

June 14th will see Halifax’s Cousins playing the Velvet Underground with Stella Ella Ola, featuring Hollerado’s Nixon Boyd, and Always, the new band from Molly Rankin.

June 16th at the Velvet Underground is yet another can’t-miss showcase with Ivan Julian, the guitarist for Richard Hell and The Voidoids. The Voidoids were one of the first wave of punk bands and Richard Hell needs no introduction. The equally awesome Dearly Beloved and Two Koreas will also round out the bill.

Once NXNE wraps up, there are a couple great gigs happening at the Silver Dollar and the infamous Comfort Zone. Fiver, a non-country outlet for Simone Schmidt of the brilliant $100 are playing the Silver Dollar on June 29th.  Army Girls and Nordic Nomadic are also on on the bill.
