Doom metal band The Obsessed have unveiled a free stream/download of their first single in over 20 years, ‘Sodden Jackyl’, via Adult Swim’s Singles Program.
“I forgot where I first heard this song, but when I did I was totally entranced. It was one of the sexiest songs I’d ever heard – so much feel and so much cool for such a simple song. I loved how it could convey so much with so little. I wanted to cover it for a while, but never actually tried. Then one day this summer I was playing it in the car and proposed it to Glenn [van Dyke] and Chase [Noelle] and they were both super into it. So Chase learned the drum part and Glenn came in with some tambourine and psychy noise guitar stuff. I borrowed Chase’s harmonica and we laid down our version on the song in a little studio that Glenn rents out in the Brooklyn Navy Yard,” Guitarist/vocalist Saara Untracht-Oakner said in a statement.
The band came together after Untracht-Oakner graduated from college in Boston and hooked up with guitarist/vocalist and Florida Glenn van Dyke. The pair bonded over a mutual love of surfing, skating and DIY pop-punk.
They released a self-titled EP in 2014 followed by their debut album Grackle in 2015 on PaperCup Music.
With a busy schedule working on DJ DVBBS‘ latest EP Wicked Ways as well as writing for the new Little Mix album Glory Days, out now, Toronto singer/songwriter Stella Rio found the time to share a free stream of her track ‘Don’t Go Away’.
She also unveiled the video for the track;
In an e-mail, Rio said that, “the song is about meeting that special person and feeling that you’re connected on a deeper level and never wanting to let that feeling go. I think most people can relate because deep down most people chase that kind of love.”
When Danny Michel was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime; the chance to join Generator Arctic, a mission traversing the Arctic Ocean with famed Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, scientists, photographers, writers, videographers aboard the Russian icebreaker Kaptain Khlebnikov, he jumped at the opportunity.
Michel’s goal was to record an album in a makeshift studio in his cabin using what he could scrounge together including camera tripods, hair ties, and gaffing tape. The result is Khlebnikov, out on January 20, 2017.
It may just earn the Guinness World Record for the northernmost album ever recorded!
He shared a free stream of ‘24,000 Horses’ from the album;
“One evening at 4:00am I woke to massive muffled booms and thuds of the Khlebnikov lurching through the Arctic ice,” Michel recalled in a statement. ”Too curious to sleep I put on all of my gear and went outside to see what was happening. There alone, at the bow I witnessed one of the most glorious moments of my life. Under an endless sky and midnight sun, I watched pieces of ice the size of tennis courts break, flip, and bounce around like bowling pins under the hull of the mighty Khlebnikov. Later that day I wrote ‘24,000 Horses'”
During his 18 days aboard the ship, he was joined by Hadfield, who sings in Russian and the dishwasher from the ship’s kitchen. Once Michel returned home, he collaborated with bandmate and award-winning composer Rob Carli.
Michel captured the trip as part of his Dan’s Space Van Web series;

Melbourne/London brother/sister duo Family Friends have shared the video for ‘Look the Other Way’.
“This tiny colourful story, featuring the lovesick offspring of national treasure Mr. Blobby, tries to get inside the heart of what it is to make a friend in the faceless urban jungle of today,” the band said in a statement.
Toronto dream-pop duo Twin Rains have shared the video for ‘Flash Burn’ from their debut album Automatic Hand.
The duo of Jay Merrow and Christine Stoesser met as roommates in 2009 and started making music almost immediately afterwards. Recorded almost entirely by self-taught producer Merrow and produced by both band members, the 11 track effort is a mediation on today’s society and how often, our hands act faster than our brains when it comes to mobile devices.
“We’re excited by the reception of the album so far,” Stoesser sad in a statement. “We took our time makingAutomatic Handand it was a bit of an insular process, so it’s such a relief to see people connecting with the music. It feels really great to finally release it and let everyone hear what we’ve been working on!”

The video for LA noise rockers HEALTH‘s ‘L.A. Looks’ harkens back to the 80’s and 90’s as it pays homage to a late night infomercial that depicts all of LA’s eccentricity.
The clip was produced by Super Deluxe and directed by Derrick Beckles of Adult Swim fame. Appropriately, the video had its premiere on West Hollywood Public Access Television.
‘L.A. Looks’ is taken from HEALTH’s latest release Death Magic, out now on Loma Vista Recordings.
